The first blog of the year!

The season to be cheery has now finished (bah humbug), but do not worry, it will soon be Christmas again!

Meanwhile, welcome to my first blog ever! It is only a short one but we all have to start somewhere.

At the end of 2006 we had 30 students qualify at Diploma level between our Newcastle and Leeds venues. Through conversations with them (and some previous students), I acknowledge one of their big fears is leaving the security of the course, their peers and tutors in order to progress into the wide world and ‘go it alone!’ I remember myself when I first qualified, at first it was very exciting and I was full of confidence knowing I was armed with a suitable qualification and the practical skills and theoretically knowledge to ‘get going’. However, I soon started to feel a little isolated as contact with my training group members seemed to diminish and then suddenly, I WAS ALONE! There were times initially when I first started in private practice as a Hypnotherapist that this was exactly how I felt and ‘isolated’ is the best word I can use to describe that feeling. Over time I did establish contact with some of my previous training group members and heard that many had felt this way too, unfortunately we were quite some distance apart and although I wasn’t born when Noah and the ark were around, IT and other communication technologies were not quite as advanced as they are today so networking was more difficult. One of the things that made a difference for me was that I had run a business before, in a previous life before Hypnotherapy, and I knew how to make and build contacts and what support was available to a small business like mine. Utilising these contacts and drawing on support was important and necessary for me at that time.

Due to my own personal experience of this and what students are saying we have decided to launch a Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter newsletter and a members section on the website – work in progress. The aim of these are to encourage and promote networking and support systems between students across all of our venues in order to minimise that feeling of being ‘out there alone’. I envisage the website members section will develop and grow over time as we monitor the need and purpose it serves.

Well that’s all for now folks, my very first blogg! I’m going to aim to do one every month so if you are vaguely interested in anything I have to say and / or the development of our work, tune in next time!
